Waterfall City
Award-winning mixed-use city in Midrand, anchored by Mall of Africa

About the project
Waterfall City is Attacq's flagship mixed-use precinct, located in Midrand (Gauteng) on the central corridor between Johannesburg and Pretoria, with direct access to the N1 and M1 highways. This large-scale development combines premium offices, logistics hubs, retail destinations and residential living. At its heart is Mall of Africa, a benchmark for premium retail on the continent, gathering more than 300 global and local brands across roughly 130,000 sqm of retail area, which opened in April 2016. Waterfall City has repeatedly been named Africa's best mixed-use development and was even crowned the world's best mixed-use development, beating leading projects from Asia-Pacific, Dubai, Europe, the UK and the US. In April 2026, Attacq and Cape Town developer Rabie Property Group announced a R750m investment in a new conference centre and hotel adjacent to Mall of Africa, accommodating up to 1,350 delegates in a single venue and featuring 180 rooms and apartments, with full operation expected by January 2028.
