Mixed-use smart city at the gateway to Mauritius' airport

About the project

Mon Trésor is one of the first smart cities in Mauritius, initially developed by Omnicane in Plaine Magnien in the south, immediately adjacent to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Proposed in 2015, the city transforms underused land into a mixed-use community bringing together residential, commercial, educational and recreational spaces. Its strategic position offers easy access to major highways and neighbouring amenities. The project comprises several components: a 55-hectare Business Gateway for offices and coworking space to let; a Trade Port and free-trade zone (Freeport Park) over 24 hectares with an attractive tax regime and preferential access to international markets; and a 10,000 m² shopping mall. An on-site Holiday Inn business hotel is in operation. Omnicane's sustainability features include smart mobility, connectivity, sustainable energy and water management, and a green environment. In 2022, amid the pandemic, the Mauritius Investment Company (MIC) acquired the entire Mon Trésor Smart City project, including residential and agricultural land as well as buildings.
