About the project

The SIC-Pizzarotti social housing programme is a major government project led by the Société Immobilière du Cameroun (SIC) in partnership with Italy's Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A. It aims to build 10,000 social housing units and their socio-cultural facilities in and around Yaoundé, supported by a prefabrication industrial base at Nkolmeyos. The first phase, at the Ekoko II site, covers 224 units under construction. Financing rests on two loans totalling just over 115 billion FCFA, signed on 1 March 2017 between the Cameroonian state and Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo. The project has faced significant delays: by February 2026 the Nkolmeyos base stood at only 25.3% and Ekoko II at 46.8% completion, three years after work began, with a 24-month extension under consideration. It remains a pillar of Cameroon's national social housing policy.
