About the project

Gateway Theatre of Shopping was developed by Old Mutual Property and opened in 2011. The centre includes a City Lodge hotel and a Virgin Active gym, creating a mixed‑use environment of retail, hospitality and fitness. It was the largest mall in Africa at the time, offering 120,000 m² of rentable space. Its construction spurred the development of a new town centre and additional commercial and residential projects in Umhlanga. The project was launched in 2007 and delivered by Gardner Property Solutions.
