About the project

Akright City, also known as Kakungulu Satellite City, is Uganda's largest planned residential community, developed by Akright Projects Limited, the country's biggest indigenous property development company. In 2002 Akright acquired roughly 2 square miles (1,300 acres) from the descendants of Prince Badru Kakungulu in Bwebajja along the Kampala-Entebbe road. Conceived as a self-sustaining city, it comprises twelve distinct neighbourhoods blending homes of every type, commerce (supermarkets, shopping malls), recreation including a golf club and golf course, a nature park, schools and health facilities such as hospitals and clinics. Founded in 1999 by Anatoli Kamugisha, Akright Projects is headquartered within the Kakungulu Housing Estate. Uganda's government is considering Akright as a benchmark model for its future new cities. Development continues in phases with ongoing infrastructure investment.
